I always feel everything has to mean something, it has to have a story behind it, a brilliant concept, communicates a message or solves a problem, something that drives it!!
Essentially this is design, isn’t it? But what ever happened to creating for the heck of it?
Just letting it all out..
Over the weekend I tried a little experiment, went over to a dollar store got a $3 sketchbook some paint brushes and colors. Put my phone on airplane mode and blasted a random playlist and just painted whatever. I listened to the first minute or so pick out the colors that I felt like picking and just painted till the song ended and for once in a very long time I didn’t have to worry if my client will like it? will it sell? is the copy legible? is it balanced? should I post it? is this going in my portfolio? … and so on and so forth
it felt freakin' liberating!!!! I had to make peace with the fact that all the drawings look as if a 2 year old painted them with her toes.. but whatever let’s try to K.I.S.S it! Keep it stupidly simple
